Anna loves both art and science. Her first year of college was spent as an animal science major, and she’s still fascinated by science: genetics, biology, chemistry, astronomy and physics. This dichotomy follows into her artwork: she researches the coefficient of expansion in glass, chemical analysis of varnish on an old portrait, has a passion for detail – unusual for an artist, patience to rival a saint and she loves to learn code for website design.
But her love of art usually wins.
Anna’s first art award was in kindergarten! From then on, she won many awards throughout school including two National Scholastic Art Awards: one of her paintings hung in the World Trade Center for six months. Her formal art training was at the University of Massachusetts, where she received a BFA in Art Education, Cum Laude with teaching certifications K-9 and 5-12. While there she was a Board of Regents Commonwealth Scholar, a Foundations Art Award scholarship recipient and the first art student ever to complete the University Honors Program. She took masters level courses during a summer intensive in France and Belgium, studying painting under artists Scott Prior and the late Gregory Gillespie. Over the years she has enjoyed working in many media: painting, ceramics, print making, stained & fused glass, jewelry design, graphic design and website design.
At various times she has been a member of: The Ashford Arts Council, The Cape Cod Art Association, The Glastonbury Art Guild, The Art League of New Britain, The Norfolk Artisans Guild, The Brookfield Craft Center, The Guilford Art Center, The Connecticut Plein Air Painters Society and a co-op member of The Connecticut River Artisans. Her artwork has been featured in many group and one-man shows throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
She has worked at many art galleries, has a CPF, Certified Picture Framer, and performs painting restoration and gold leaf frame restoration for several area galleries. She received a CIW Certified Internet Webmaster, INET+ . She has made websites for various art galleries and for a wholesale jewelry company where she was their art director and jewelry designer. She loves designing glass, jewelry and print media as well as maintaining websites and social media. She currently is working as a freelance artist.
Anna originates from Cape Cod, and the sea is still a theme in her artwork at times, in her paintings, jewelry and glass. Currently she lives in the “Quiet Corner” of Connecticut with her husband Steve and an array of pets. They cherish the charm and endure the tribulations of living in a nineteenth century farmhouse.
